How To Root Nexus 7 Running Jellybean 4.1 Install ClockworkMod Recovery

Two days ago during Google I/O, Nexus 7 was announced with much anticipation the 7 inch tablet from Google that was rumored to take down all tablets with a price range affordable by masses. The Nexus 7 was  launched with a price label of $199 only and every attendee of Google I/O received a free device as a sovereign. Ever since then, the developers started working on exploring the device and there have been several hands on videos and the device got bench-marked too. 

Surprisingly, the talented developers of Android community has already rooted Google's Nexus 7 and installed clockworlmod recovery on the device so you can install custom roms. Android developer Birdman from Rookzwiki has shared the good news that he successfully rooted his galaxy nexus 7. Although the device is not officially released yet, the rooting method is now out and hot. Below are the instructions the root galaxy nexus 7 to get clockworkmod recovery by unlocking boot loader. Make sure you take a backup of your device before proceeding with the steps below. Also, rooting the device will void your product warranty and you are doing this at your own risk and we are not responsible for anything that goes wrong with your device.

Guide To Root Google Nexus7

The process is divided into 3 steps :
  • Unlocking Bootloader
  • Flashing Clockworkmod Recovery
  • Gaining Root
Unlocking Bootloader

Step 1: Download and install Android SDK.

Step 2: Enable USB Debugging from Settings > Developer Options.

Step 3: Connect your Nexus 7 with PC via USB cable. Launch Terminal / Command Prompt, navigate to the fastboot folder which will be inside the location where Android SDK is installed (On Windows, it should be in C:\)

Step 4: Enter the following command:
fastboot oem unlock
Once flashing is complete, enter:
fastboot reboot
Step 5: Download and place recovery.img in the fastboot folder and type in the following:
fastboot flash recovery CWM-grouper-recovery.img
Step 6: Reboot again by entering:
fastboot reboot

Step 7: Enter the following commands in terminal:
mount system
adb shell
cd /system
mv recovery-from-boot.p recovery-from-boot.bak
Rooting The Device

Step 8: Download JB-SuperSU.zip and place it directly under /sdcard on your device.

Step 9: Enter ClockworkMod Recovery by turning off your device completely:
Press and hold Volume Up, Volume Down and Power buttons until you see the screen flash with the iconic CWM logo.

Step 10: From the main menu, navigate to install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard > JB-SuperSU.zip

Step 11: From main menu, select reboot system now.
