Before we begin, make sure you have taken a backup of your application data and sd card although this installation will not wipe your data. Once you have taken the backup of your Galaxy Note data, proceed with the steps below.
Steps To Install Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) On Samsung Galaxy Note
Step 1 : Downloading Files and Installing Drivers
- Download ICS Stock Firmware Along With Odin 1.85
Download Link : ICS Germany Hot File Link Torrent - Download Link : Odin 1.85
- Extract the zip file by right clicking and selecting "Extract All," or by using an extracting program of your choice.
Step 2 : Connecting the Device
- Turn off USB Debugging by going to Settings>Applications>Development and Unchecking USB debugging.
- Power off the device by holding the power button and selecting Power off
- Put the device into Downloading mode
- Hold the Vol Down button + Home and then hold the Power button as well.
- Keep holding until you see two icons. First you'll see the Samsung Galaxy Note logo and then the icons will show up. Let go.
- Press the Vol Up button to select Downloading mode.
- Connect the device to your computer with the USB cable and Odin status should turn yellow.
Step 3 : Flashing German Stock ICS Firmware
- Go into the same root folder as before.
- Double click the root application named "Odin3_v1.85.exe"
- Click On PDA
- Browse and locate the following file that we downloaded in Step 1 - "N7000XXLPY_N7000OXALPY_N7000XXLPT_HOME.tar.md5"
- Configure the options exactly as mentioned:
- Re-Partition - Unchecked
- Flash Lock - Unchecked
- Auto Reboot - Checked
- F. Reset Time - Checked
- Click Start
- Once it is complete, you can close the program
Step 4 : Completing Installation / Wiping Cache
- Your Samsung Galaxy Note will boot up with Official ICS. At this moment, your phone should be running very slow, this is normal and supposed to happen as we have not yet wiped the cache for the previous firmware from your device.
- Once you are on the home screen, switch off your device.
- Put the device into Recovery mode
- Hold the Vol Up button along with home and the Power button as well.
- Keep holding until you see two icons. First you'll see the Samsung Galaxy Note logo and then the icons will show up. Let go.
- Using the volume down button, select the option "Wipe Cache Partition"
- Once done, select the option "Reboot System Now"
Your Samsung Galaxy Note should now boot up and be as fast as it was prior to ICS upgrade. If you have any questions, feel free to post them in the comment section.

will it work using mac..?
@Bhavin as I do not have a mac, I cannot confirm if this works on it. It works perfectly on Windows though.
Does this also contain the premium suite? Have people had success doing this upgrade?
What premium suite are you referring to ?
Works perfect!! I have Icecream sandwich on my indian note :)
Thanks mate
GPRS Network not coming up after update. settings are fine on other android phones and working. working fine before update. what should i do?
Works well for me. Try changing the apn settings in Settings=>More=>Mobile Network
It does have Premium Suite
nOT DOWNLOADABLE
Great! i can now log on with face unlock. thanks for the instructions and download links
Does anyone know why the download is +600mb whereas the Samsung download was only 300mb?
That's because OTA updates are small compared to full download. The archive size is 600 and when extracted its 900...
Can you provide a source where the ICS update for Galaxy Note is 300mb ?
Here's the link which says Over the air update size is 300 mb.
http://news.softpedia.com/news/Android-4-0-ICS-for-Samsung-Galaxy-Note-Now-Available-for-Download-268680.shtml
Over the air update size is small because there is already a running OS in your device and only the updates are getting installed. Just like Windows update : you see 100 mb service pack update but if you download entire OS with that service pack the size is large.
Hope this makes sense
Does this process wipe all existing Apps and settings?
This is official Samsung Update, so nothing gets wiped.
anyone successfully complete this using a MAC ??????
Are you able to go back to previous rom once this is complete, if so how???
@mcatt66 I don't see any reason why I wouldn't be able to downgrade. I'll try downgrading and will make an update tonight.
This is official firmware guys - There is no need to worry installing this one
how much time it will take
i am waiting for last half hour
it stops at factoryfs.img
Can't open the serial(COM) port. (FAIL) get this error phone stuck in dl mode
Can I install if currently rooted if so will I it remove the root?
Have a little patience : The torrent will speed up today.
Harkirat have you followed the steps exactly as mentioned ? Mention more details.
Den : Did you forget to turn off debugging mode ?
I don't no the consequences of installing it over a rooted device.
i switched it to diffrent port it is loading now
i switched it to diffrent port it is loading now
@harkirat ! whats the status now ?
@ anonymous !! it should / will work irrespective of root / unroot ! coz we are just flashing the ics on our device !
thanks for this update..got it and working as mention...
:-) welcome
how long it will take to finish the odin process
@ mani_rk ! no step takes time except NAND write start ! NAND write start takes about max 10-15 minutes !! not more than that ! all set up ! can be all done in maximum of 20 minutes !
Absolutely great instructions! Thanks a lot! Downloaded, installed and working as expected.
One thing I should mention, my Note was rooted before, but after thsi update (no issues in update) but it's not rooted any more. It doesn't matter to me because I only needed root for the DSLR Controller app, and that would work with either Root OR ICS. So, I am good, but take note in case yours is rooted and you want it that way.
Dont you mean turning on USB Debugging cos thats what checking it means?
@ DEn SAID ! Sorry for inconvenience ! its been corrected now !! UNchecking ! its un checking ! usb debugging must be turned OFF , then nly ur device gets properly detected in odin ! sorry for Inconvenience !
@ sunil ! :) welcome ! I suppose device can again be rooted after updating ICS in it !
Hey Ehhmad, worked after:
- making odin compatible with win xp service pack 3
- runnning as administrator
- closing all kies programs using task manager
- and changing usb port and using original samsung usb cable
Thanks
My USB debugging was ON btw checked.. and it worked =/
Thank u so much.......got ics on my mobile working fine superb perfomance............
is it possible to official version after rolled out in india
@ mani_rk ! yeshhh ! may be if u down grade back to 2.3.6 !
anr idea to grade back to 2.3.6
thank you so much for this!
@mani..may be u shud first download the official 2.3.6. ..then the same process...we are trying to downgrade it.....will update as soon as it is done
preimum suite in this ics?
From the UK...
ok it worked A ok and thank you very much.
Two things however:
1-When i plug it into Kies, it says 'your device does not support software upgrading via kies'
Why? How can i remedy this?
2- How can i transfer my phone back to Stock Gingerbread and then get the NORMAL kies ICS for an english n7000?
@snape You can flash back your gingerbread rom 2.3.6 the same way.
Do we require to re-install all the application after wiping the cache by "Wipe Cache Partition"
No, you don't need to install anything after wiping cache
liquid smooth ics rom for samsung galaxy note does it works in dis version
note user india perfect instruction rom working fine !!
I just cant install Chrome Beta. I cant download it from Market. Apart from that, everything else is working fine! Thank you very much.
Regards from Malaysia
@mani_rk you will wait for liquid smooth to get updated.
@hisyam Could be because of beta limitations of Chrome. Thank you for the regards!!
If I want to flash stock ROM after ICS, would any stock ROM do or I have to find stock ROM for my country? My broadband is N7000XXLA4
Thanks! Wanted to know just incase.
Basicly it works absolutely perfectly.
Prem. Suite is there and Chrome works a ok.
Only qualm is the fact i can no longer update via kies...but I doubt i'll ever have to and im sure a work around will come about!
Thanks alot and keep up the good work!
@Farhan you can flash Stock rom after ics : Check the firmware download section for your firmware.
@Snape Thanks! You can always get back to your country specific rom, doing that kies will no longer say that your device cannot be upgraded.
Do NOT UPGRADE TO ICS ANYMORE
Read The Update On Top and those who have already upgrading can downgrade their devices following the tutorial provided.
This is a critical warning and could hard brick your device. Downgrade your device as soon as possible.

der s 2roms for india 1india(non wipe) another one is india....which one is i preffer help me
@Mani_rk I'd prefer the latest one.
I've installed the same on my device. Works well but you'll have to do a factory reset so backup your data and only then proceed.
REM : DO NOT TRY TO DELETE ANYTHING FROM YOUR ICS UPGRADED GALAXY NOTE.
Simply take a backkup or copy the data that you need.
can i upgrade it now ?
when ics for us in india any idea
@Rahul Do not upgrade.
@Mani_rk No clue, Samsung has always been late in releasing updates for Indian devices
@husan ! Well bro... when i decided to UG my device to ics... u r sayin I should not do it ! has ano one's device bricked ?? why u r sayin not to upgrade it ?
Worked superb! :) In norwegian to
@Rahul XDA senior developers have tested and found that ICS has a file system that erases entire content of Galaxy note resulting in hard brick.
The incident has been reported to Google and they are working on it.

Me too had the same problem..try wiping cache! if not....wipe data..ie.factory reset..i had to do it. .to get back to 2.3.6
Update 1 : For those who are getting Google.framework error, put your device into recovery mode and select 'wipe cache partition' and if the error persists,
Put the device back into Recovery mode:
=>Hold the Vol Up button along with home and the Power button as well.
=>Keep holding until you see two icons. First you'll see the Samsung Galaxy Note logo and then the icons will show up. Let go.
=>Using the volume down button, select the option "Wipe User Data"
=>Once done, select the option "Reboot System Now"
This should fix the error.
when i try to download Gingerbread from your site and try to unzip it it asks for a password...what is it?
Password For All Firmwares : samfirmware.com
ics now released in india i got it so happy.........
There is no Gingerbread downgrade option for o2 users in the UK?
Yeah, I just seen that too. There is only a CPW version for the UK. Any ideas anyone?
I have updated my Note with ICS German version and it is working fine so far. Can I now update it safely with other ICS version now as there were some report of problem with German Version following the same method explained above?
Please advise
Frnds Is this Problem Solved. Please Reply ASAP...And yes if solved please provide a link for it.....Thanks :/

Sorry i got through, I had to end the kies app in the background and it works perfectly.. Thanks
Guys the problem is not solved and would take much time as Samsung has just released the source code for ICS to XDA developers so that they can find a solution to fix this issue..
It is highly recommended for you to go back to gingerbread until there is a green signal from XDA
can i use this in the phillipines?
should i install kies in my computer before install this ics?
